The format of this exhibition space allows me to show a lot of work together that I otherwise have been able to. The two main ingredients or recurring themes in my art/life are pop culture and self-improvement. Over time my work has become increasingly personal, including daily video diaries and…

Hello Loves!
Are you looking for a way to be more ethical while still being fashion conscious? Check out Jill Danyelle of Tree Hugger TV. Follow up episode coming soon with more green stores and green fashion designers. Danyelle is interesting because she refers to herself as a creative ecologist. Hey My Loves,
Have you stopped listening to commercial radio? Well, here’s a group you need to know. Finotee is Swan, Justice, Peter, Carl & Kevin. They are an amazing band and you can hear some of their music at www.finotee.com.
When I did a reading accompanied by them at Lincoln Center’s Barnes and Noble, the store said that their customers were bowled over and found it to be the best event that they had ever had!
I will be reading with them again tonight from 6-7pm at Hue Man Bookstore and Cafe in Harlem.
The Amsterdam News called our joint event/ reading/ performance “a must see!”
See you there!

Or Vice President at least! ;-D I am so excited to tell you about what a big success V to the 10th was. Eve Ensler is the playwright who wrote The Vagina Monologues, and activist who works worldwide with her organization V-Day to stop violence against women and girls everywhere form Africa to Albuquerque. My writing is featured in her last anthology A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer alongside the writing of Maya Angelou, Edward Albee, Edwidge Danticat, Howard Zinn, David Eggers, Patricia Bosworth, Carol Gilligan, Erica Cressida Wilson, Elizabeth Lesser and others, and I also created the Vagina Warriors Film Festival for her which took place at the Museum of the City of NY and Museum of TV and Radio.
The latest venture for this magic woman was to go into the forgotten New Orleans mess and turn that horrific superdome into a dome of love for the first time since Hurricane Katrina. I thought that I was going to be able to go help with workshops etc, but unfortunately, I was unable to. Read more about it on her site. They called it Superlove and 10,000 people were there on the first day! Kerry Washington and Rosario Dawson were in attendance.
WHO IS AFRODITE? You’ve seen Afrodite as a teen out maybe a little too late with people you are sure that her mom wouldn’t approve of. You remember Afrodite sitting across from you in High School in a killer mini, and it was funny in college when that dude would always drop something so that she would have to bend over to pick it up. You have enjoyed Afrodite shaking what her mama gave her in music video after music video. You have seen Afrodite displaying her ample ass on the covers of magazines, and letting you know that she is not the girl next door, but the bitch down the street. Afrodite’s body is everywhere, but her words are not, her mind is not, her thoughts are absent. Or maybe, they were here all along, and you just never noticed them.
Venus Hottentot was an early Afrodite; her ample booty on display as she stood caged in museums and freak shows from London to Paris. I wrote Afrodite Superstar to reclaim her voice, yours, and my own. AIDS and HIV numbers continue to rise with women of color being the biggest victims. This is mostly because of our lack of honest conversations, stigmas and taboos in areas of sexuality. Women’s pleasure is seen as dangerous worldwide. This is why FGM persists overseas. This is why Afrodite Speaks.
KNITTED breasts that help women learn to feed their babies have won a Liverpool midwife a major award. Kate McFadden from Liverpool Women’s hospital has picked up an innovator of the year award for her woolly invention. Do they come in different sizes, I wonder? And after training can you use them as padding if needed? Hahahahah!
Ahem…. Obviously, I’ve never been a mom, so if this helps out, go for it! Well, actually I am a mom to my furry daughter Anabelle, but I just generally put her food into a bowl! The knitting pattern for the breasts is being made available online for volunteers to download. The breasts are produced in a variety of skin shades and are cheaper than sourcing latex models, which cost around £35 each. I think that they’re purrrty. Kind of fabulous because they help moms, yet utterly unfab out of context, ya dig?
HOT! inspirational line from zulema… creativity, people! that’s what i’m talking about!!! editor, saleem
does this vid look real to you? back in 03 when i was first kicking around the idea of making the movie afrodite superstar in grad school, a film that parodies much of the hip hop industry, steve kurtz, my very wise professor said, “be careful. it’s difficult to parody something that has already become a parody of itself.” he was talking about hip hop. and he was right. check out this faux music video from my film afrodite superstar. now this looks SO obviously FAKE to me. purposefully so. i wanted to parady the worst aspects of music videos to shine a light on certain thing— the proliferation of skin, guns, omnipresent cash etc. this video and the other one that i shot for the rapper named “criminal” in the film seem so obviously a parody to me. i mean — there’s cash stuck to trees. TREES! absurd!! so imagine my surprise when i received a hateful email last friday calling me every name int he book and talking about music videos, exploitation and black women and why another video with guns and blonde weaves (referring to another clip) without even realizing that it is fake, parody — hulllo? hello! has this person never watched an episode of mad tv/ snl/ dave chapelle in their entire lives?! the story of afrodite superstar is that of a beverly hills socialite who is confused by media images of what is sexy and gets all blond wigged and blue contacted, sexed out, pretends to be “hood” etc. in an effort to score her dude, and a rep… ai dios mio!!! homegirl writing the letter took 24 hours to realize we are on the same side. are we so one-dimensional now that we don’t even understand parody, satire or metaphor? everything she was talking about are the same reasons i made the #$#%$@% movie! fascinating… do we think that stating the obvious is the only way to teach? or can art play a part?! anyhow, here’s the vid: compton’s in the building, burning it down…
