When it comes to music videos, is anyone out there even still trying to create the epic? Kanye tosses out the occasional ode to MTV yesteryear, but no one else seems invested in the grand narrative arc. With that prelude, say what you will about Lady GaGa, but her new video for “Paparazzi” is conceptually…. something. Perez Hilton himself says: “It is her strongest work to date. It is a mini-film. It is art. It is visual pornography. It is satire. It is commentary. It is brilliant! And, we are NOT exaggerating.” Okay then! See also: GaGa channeling Madonna channeling Warhol, and big dicks.

My favorite fellow misfits The Black Eye Peas are back. i would be a Pea if i could sing, dance, or had any musical talent whatsoever… ;-)

MTV Went Behind The Scenes On Black Eyed Peas Futuristic Video Shoot For “Boom Boom Pow”

“The concept of the video is the Peas birth into the digital afterlife” - Fergie

“What would it be like if we were actually in the computer?” - will.i.am

The video for “Boom Boom Pow,” directed by Mathew Cullen & Mark Kudsi of Motion Theory (Weezer’s “Pork and Beans” and Beck’s “Girl”) premiers everywhere next week. In the first video from The E.N.D., The Black Eyed Peas’ imagine 3008; their birth into the digital afterlife.

Planet Ab Show: Women in Hip Hop - Where are they?

    Hey Loves,

This shot is from my bday party. It is my friend Zelma singing — off the chain! Zelma is a songbird not a rapper, but it was nice to see her repping on stage and she was sweet enough to call me up. Where are all of the divas in hip hop??? Are Video Vixens the only ones left in the game? Missy? Lil Kim? Foxy Brown? Queen Latifah? If you are a woman in hip hop, leave your rhymes at (917) 267-2607. Maybe we’ll have you on a future show. WATCH the video.

    Meet FINOTEE.. Hot Afro-World-Jazz-R&B Band

    Hey My Loves,
Have you stopped listening to commercial radio? Well, here’s a group you need to know. Finotee is Swan, Justice, Peter, Carl & Kevin. They are an amazing band and you can hear some of their music at www.finotee.com.

When I did a reading accompanied by them at Lincoln Center’s Barnes and Noble, the store said that their customers were bowled over and found it to be the best event that they had ever had!

I will be reading with them again tonight from 6-7pm at Hue Man Bookstore and Cafe in Harlem.
The Amsterdam News called our joint event/ reading/ performance “a must see!”

    See you there!

    Ashanti’s Declaring Gotcha!

I had the most fun conversation and interview with singer Ashanti yesterday. Her new album is called Declaration, and she is declaring herself to be her own person. One of the really cute marketing ideas attached to her fourth album is the Gotchagram, which you are supposed to send to the lying, cheating men or other persons in your life. I didn’t know who to send it to first! Just kidding, of course… ;-) But for all of you always writing to me for breakup advice, you might wanna look into it. WATCH THIS ALL THE WAY THOUGH- HILARIOUS!

I did get all into babygirl’s business, but you’ll have to wait to watch the interview and see that for yourself! Haha! She was very passionate about her work.

Meanwhile, I am going to exclusively leak to you few clips:

Guyanese People on TV - Leona Lewis! lol

My mom just called to tell me that Leona Lewis is on American Idol. We found out today via massive Guyanese email chain that her dad is Guyanese. Her mom is Welch. I feel like when Oprah said that when she was a kid they’d call each other and yell, “Colored people on TV!!” LOL Leona is pretty awesome, though. You gotta admit it!! Totally due to her Guyanese heritage, I am sure. By the way, even though she was already a best-selling artist worldwide, she was told to lose weight and sexy up to make it in America. Some thing’s wrong here, kids!
